Our National Parks

What does Tanzania’s National Parks have to offer

The Serengeti Plains National Park hosts the annual wildebeest migration across its grassy plains - arguably the world's greatest wildlife spectacle - this Serengeti National Park is without a doubt a defining image of East Africa and more specifically Tanzania.

The Ngorongoro Crater National Park - the name has an almost mystical ring to it and the Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most densely crowded wildlife areas in the world and is home to an estimated 30,000 animals.

The Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania's most dramatically located wildlife areas, and Lake Manyara's most visible predators, and also its prime tourist attraction are lions, famous for their habit of climbing trees.

The Tarangire River provides the only permanent water in the area and forms a "dry season retreat" for the animals of the southern Masailand in Tanzania and the Tarangire National Park is reputed to contain some of the largest elephant herds in Tanzania or even in Africa.

The Arusha National Park, a small but beautiful park, is the closest National Tanzanian National Park to both the famous African "safari town" of Arusha (29 km), as well as the Kilimanjaro International Airport, thus making it ideal for day excursions. Not only is the wildlife in the Arusha National Park abundant, but it is also one of the most beautiful and topographically varied parks in Tanzania.

The best time to visit the Tanzanian National Parks for safaris and tours:

Ngorongoro Crater National Park: Because of its topography forming an enclosed eco-system the Ngorongoro Crater can be visited all year round.

Lake Manyara National Park: The long dry season from June to September and again in January and February. During the rainy months, some roads in the Lake Manyara Park are impassable and the mosquitoes are plentiful.

Serengeti Plains National Park: All year round with December to March as the more rewarding period of which February is the best. Masses of migratory herds are on the short grass of the southern Serengeti plains at this time. It is also the birthing season for the wildebeest and the hartebeest and it is always a thrill to watch a baby wildebeest stumble to its feet minutes after being born.

Tarangire National Park: Prime game viewing months are between July and December, when the only permanent water in the region – the Tarangire River - attracts animals in great numbers to this National Park

Arusha National Park: All year long, but during April and May some roads in the Arusha National Park may require a 4 wheel drive vehicle.
